Thirty Years in Whistler Village

Nineteen ninety-six
Mongolie Grill opened in Whistler Village in 1996 and has been independently owned and operated ever since — which, in a resort town, is rarer than it sounds. The room is the same room. A fair number of the faces are too.
The format has not changed
You still build your own bowl, it is still weighed before it is cooked and it is still cooked in front of you on a grill that takes up most of the room. We have never seen a good reason to change any of that. The things that have changed are mostly the ones you cannot see from a table.
What changed is behind the scenes
We were early to the community's compost programme. Plastic, tin, paper and glass go to the local depot. The linens and takeout containers were swapped for biodegradable ones, the paper towel dispensers came out in favour of hand dryers and the plastic straws went for compostable.

The community part
We support the Whistler Community Services Foodbank and a handful of other local organisations, and we have for a long time. That is the part of being here three decades that we are most attached to.
